TV reports with Tom Kahn The Dalai Lama in Frankfurt - Focus TV in Sat1 on 08.10.2009 (cut)
Internet Comments “The novel is a phenomenon. For quite some time nothing happens except for that some educated and intelligent people are sitting in a high tech office, researching, discussing or contacting experts around the world. But by doing so they take the Tibetan Buddhismus completely apart. To see how they achive that, how they collect the pieces of a puzzle and create a suprising new picture of Tibet, that is most fascinating and just as spellbindung as the action scenes. “A daring but well researched thriller that I imagine can kick of an avalanche and get into the line of fire of a public discussion (…) and when you start looking at the facts again after having read it you really don´t know any more what is real. That´s a subtile horror. An absolute must read!” “First I just saw the subtitle `thriller´ but then I found one of the most interesting books I ever read. While the story follows the typical pattern of a thriller the new picture of the world of buddhism shows unusual expertise and profound research. This book has the curage to blow away the widespread idea that buddhism is the key to a world full of peace and modesty. Only the Chinese policy in Tibet seems a bit too friendly to me. However, the book is essential for a critical discussion about the whole topic.” "To me the book was rather educatory and extremely interesting. Most of the plot describes how Dr. Decker sits together with the beautiful Chinese Li Mai in her super equipped jet and makes a research on her insoluble mission. Li Mai organizes teleconferences with historical personalities such as for example the legendary Chinese general, who was witnessing the invasion of Tibet. (It’s a real name by the way, I searched everything in Wiki). So I really liked the book and in future I’m certainly going to watch the world wide adoration of Dalai Lama with different eyes. Outstanding! “A daring but well researched thriller that I imagine can kick of an avalanche and get into the line of fire of a public discussion (…) and when you start looking at the facts again after having read it you really don´t know any more what is real. One of those books that made me curious right away by its breathless plot and the profound knowledge of the author, not to mention the little-known or totally new facts represented in a very convincing way. Told in a very clear writing style, this story is a MUST for all the curious readers. I ´swallowed´ this book within 3 evenings – just great!" "Wow, what a genius novel! It’s difficult to figure out the borders between the reality and the fiction. At the same time I was reading the book “Tibet - a story of one land” by Thomas Laird and I experienced everything as if I were there myself. Tom Kahn managed to shake me up and to change my views on certain things. For example Tibet for me isn’t anymore a oh-such-a-poor, occupied country. And the Dalai Lama is in my eyes just a man, who is trying to survive in the contemporary world. I wish everybody to really enjoy reading this novel." |
